Description

Merano/Meran in South Tyrol, Italy lies at the intersection of the Passeier Valley, the Adige Valley and the Vinschgau Valley. To the north of the Merano basin, the Texel Group, part of the Ötztal Alps, shields the region from precipitation and chilly temperatures. Warm, Mediterranean air enters the basin through the Adige Valley, which is open to the south. The average annual temperature is 12°C. Heat-loving plants such as palm trees, cypresses, sweet chestnuts and Lebanon cedars characterize the cityscape of Merano. In the plains surrounding Merano, apple orchards and vineyards dominate the landscape. However, kiwis and pears also thrive.

Numerous castles, palaces and churches on the slopes around the spa town are popular hiking destinations. Snack stations, mountain inns and numerous huts invite you to take a well-earned break. Ascent aids such as the Hirzerbahn make it easier to reach higher hiking destinations.

The 40 routes in this book cover a wide range from short walks to half-day and day hikes to challenging, multi-day Merano high-altitude hikes. The altitude meters to be climbed are between 90 and 1,990 m. The walking times given are approximate and range between 1 and 11 hours. When compiling the routes, glaciers and via ferratas were not included.

The extensive network of paths in Merano and Environs is regularly maintained and is therefore in the best possible condition. Nevertheless, you should not forget that this is an alpine area. Steep or rocky sections are common, and there are also exposed passages to negotiate. At these altitudes, weather events sometimes have a major impact on the accessibility of the trails; after heavy thunderstorms, individual sections may be difficult or even impassable.
<ui>
Compact and handy format (10.5 x 16 cm)

Protected spiral binding

Image description completely waterproof coated inside pages

Clear, easy-to-read maps

Optimal hiking scale 1:35.000 with UTM network

detailed depiction of the trail categories

waypoints link map and text

accurate route descriptions

precise information on places and sights

numerous town center and village maps

and and town maps

elevation profiles for each stage

comprehensive accommodation directory

thoroughly researched and constantly updated
</ui>
Esterbauer Verlag | 176 pages | 10,5 x 16 cm | spiral binding
