Description

The Haute Route is the forefather of all Alpine crossings, so to speak - and it hasn't lost any of its appeal over the past 150 years! It is still one of the most impressive experiences to have completed the route between Chamonix and Zermatt under your own steam on a multi-day route through high alpine terrain!
This Rother hiking guide presents two alternatives for this route: Firstly, there is the classic alpine route in the footsteps of the "explorers", the English gentlemen from the time of the conquest of the high Alps. This route leads from Mont Blanc to Valais without any major technical difficulties, but over high glacier passes past the major peaks. A more challenging variant of this route on the Grand Combin and to some peaks along the way is also described for experienced mountaineers in the high Alps.
<p
For those who do not want to cross the glaciers and can therefore travel with less alpine equipment, a haute hiking route is described: This combines magnificent high-altitude trails with their unique panoramas opposite the major peaks from Mont Blanc to Grand Combin, Weisshorn and Dom and finally the Matterhorn.</p
In this Rother hiking guide, the two authors Marianne Bauer and Michael Waeber have described the Haute Route as a summer tour in compact form for the first time in German. Divided into individual stages, all the important information about the route, all the huts along the way, the difficulties to be expected and the route itself is presented in a clear and concise format with an altitude profile and map. Introductory text and informative photos round off the descriptions so that you can get an excellent idea of the routes when planning at home. GPS data is available for download.

Marianne Bauer, Michael Waeber | Bergverlag Rother | 1st edition 2015 | 200 pages | 131 color illustrations, 46 elevation profiles, 36 hiking maps at a scale of 1:50,000, two overview maps | format 11.5 x 16.5 cm | paperback with Polytex lamination
