Oberwallis Hiking guide

<p>With its mountain giants over four thousand meters high, such as the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa, with glacier breaks, ice flanks and rock faces, Valais is not only a paradise for alpinists, but also turns out to be an ideal hiking region: The slopes lean back above the narrow, gorge-like valleys and are criss-crossed by a network of paths that are as easy as they are well signposted; picturesque alpine huts are scattered between meadows and forests, sun-blackened hay barns and "Spycher" give this picture-book landscape its homely charm against a magnificent backdrop.</p> <p>In order to do justice to the rich hiking offer between the Grimsel Pass and Lake Geneva, the area is covered by two Rother hiking guides: Upper and Lower Valais. In the Upper Valais volume, Michael Waeber and Hans Steinbichler, both experienced alpine journalists and excellent Valais experts, present 49 one-day tours in the German-speaking area of the Rhône Valley and in the side valleys around Zermatt, Saas-Fee and Fiesch.
